Job Summary

EQUANS is seeking an experienced Business Development Director (BDD) to drive the growth of our Energy and Sustainability solutions and our Integrated Facility Management (IFM) services in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively presenting EQUANS’s value proposition to C-level executives, covering the full sales cycle—from lead generation to contract negotiation and closing.

Reporting to the Business Development Vice-President, you will spearhead market development by identifying new prospects, responding to RFPs, negotiating contracts, and capitalizing on cross-selling opportunities with EQUANS’s sister companies (e.g., Plan Group). This role is pivotal in expanding our facility services footprint in Ontario, from strategy development and market penetration to execution.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Market Penetration: Build and maintain relationships with executive-level contacts, generate new leads, conduct sales interviews and presentations, and attend key industry events.
  • Demonstrate Value: Prepare and deliver compelling commercial offers around facility management and energy sustainability solutions, particularly to C-level owners and representatives.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work alongside internal specialists in energy, sustainability, technology, and operations to develop high-impact presentations and proposals.
  • Customer-Focused Approach: Listen actively and identify customer challenges and objectives. Address these needs with tailored solutions, demonstrating solid financial and business acumen.
  • Account & Pipeline Management: Assist in developing strategic account plans, lead the implementation of action plans, and pursue new business opportunities in target vertical markets.
  • Proposal & Contract Negotiation: Lead the bidding process, negotiate pricing, and establish contract terms and conditions. Ensure alignment with internal stakeholders to finalize successful proposals.
  • CRM Utilization: Use the company’s CRM tools to plan, monitor, and document sales activities, building a robust pipeline aligned with annual business objectives.
  • Client Relationship Oversight: Guide client interactions from initial contact through to successful handover and engagement with Operations teams.
  • Industry Insight: Stay current on market trends, competitive landscapes, and industry developments to engage potential clients with confidence and credibility.
  • Industry events: This is a field role requiring regular travel within the GTA to meet with clients and attend industry events.

Requirements

  • Authorization to work in Canada
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5–10 years’ experience in facility management and/or the energy sector
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in strategic business development, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets
  • Knowledge of industrial and manufacturing market segments is required
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with strong problem-solving skills and solid business acumen
  • Results-driven, self-starter comfortable working autonomously
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Strategic thinker able to address complex business challenges and deliver results
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office applications
  • Familiarity with energy conservation, sustainability, district energy, and digital solutions (an asset)
  • Master’s degree (MBA) considered an asset but not required
