EQUANS is looking for a Casual Winter Service Driver to join our team in Grimsby. This is a part time, zero hour, permanent role. With a salary of £14.17 per hour.

Winter Service Drivers will be required to be available on a standby rota for gritting call outs. The standby rota will operate for 27 weeks during the winter season, from the end of October to April. Winter Drivers will be on standby for 12 hour periods, which will alternate between midday to midnight and midnight to midday.

Drivers will be paid £14.70 per 12 hour shift when on standby. In addition, drivers will be paid £96.94 per gritting call out, enhanced to £129.25 on bank holidays. The payment for holidays is included within the call out rates.

A driving license including LGV Category C (HGV Class 2) licence is essential for this role.

What will you deliver? 

EQUANS are recruiting Casual Gritter Drivers to salt its road network during the winter season (October to April). This is a casual role working an alternating shift pattern between midnight and midday or midday to midnight, including weekends and bank holidays. 

•             The post holder will be required to drive specialist winter service vehicles and equipment, subject to license, training, and competency, including fixed bodied gritters, demount gritters, and loading shovel. 

•             In addition to driving the gritter, duties will also include fuelling the vehicle, loading the gritter with salt at the start of the route and cleaning the vehicle upon completion of the route.

•             The post holder will be required to be available on an alternating shift pattern between midnight to midday or midday to midnight, including weekends and bank holidays. 

•             The post holder will be required to spread salt on the highway during both normal working hours and out of hours, when called out.

•             The post holder must be able, whilst on shift, to attend the Operating Centre at Grimsby Town Centre within 60 minutes of being called out.

•             The post holder will be required to fit and operate ancillary equipment such as snow plough attachments during adverse weather conditions.

•             The post holder will be familiar with drivers’ hours legislation and be able to complete accurate records, including drivers’ hours books and vehicle defect books.

Who are we looking for? 

  • Applicants should hold a LGV Category C (HGV Class 2) licence.
  • Applicants should preferably hold a recognised telehandler licence although training will be provided to suitable candidates.
  • Candidates should preferably hold a City and Guilds 6159 Winter Service qualification, although training will be provided to suitable candidates.
  • Applicants should be able to work in a physically demanding environment in extreme cold and often adverse weather conditions.
  • Applicants should be able to work well under pressure and retain a positive attitude.
  • Applicants should have excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants must be prepared to work outdoors in a physically demanding environment.
  • Applicants must have good organisational skills, a systematic approach to work and be able to maintain accurate records.
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Driving license is essential
