Summary

Supports the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the (MDES). This includes steam, chilled water, and low temperature hot water systems as well as kilometers of distribution piping networks and all systems’ auxiliaries.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive client-focused work environment where team members take pride in meeting our operational and contractual requirement.
  • Prioritize safety through field presence, coaching and training.
  • Assume all duties and authorities of the Chief Operating Engineer during their scheduled leave or other absences as required.
  • Assist with compliance of applicable legislation, regulations, codes and standards related to the facilities operations and of occupational health, environment & safety.
  • Work with staff and customers to develop and implement efficiencies and strategies to maximize opportunities for delivery of services.
  • Coordinate shutdowns for regular and emergency maintenance.
  • Maintain inspection, testing and performance records and reports.
  • Review and update operating documents and drawings to accurately reflect technological changes and legislative requirements.
  • Manage accuracy of equipment labelling and correlation to CMMS and Lockout/Tag Out.
  • Maintain and update the testing and inventory of all safety equipment and life safety devices.
  • Participate in the evaluation of operational and safety risks and propose corrective actions.
  • Manage processes for appropriate readings, and log record keeping for boilers, chillers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide support and leadership to the commissioning team during the commissioning process at the modernized DES and any future projects.
  • Inform multiple stakeholders of commissioning activities as it relates to the operation of the modernized DES.
  • Participate in daily planning and forecasting related to thermal energy production requirements for the modernized DES.
  • Ensure all water treatment activities meet standards and regulations
  • Other duties as required.

Requirements 

  • Is authorized to work in Canada;
  • Able to pass the required security clearance;
  • Five (5) years of experience in a CHCP environment;
  • Valid (TSSA Certified) 1st or 2nd Class Stationary Engineering certifications;
  • Previous experience working in industrial plant operations (energy sector);
  • Proven team leader, team player, committed to excellence, and positive attitude;
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Familiar with government and regulatory agencies;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and CMMS technologies;
  • Ability to ensure safe and efficient operations in an industrial setting;
  • Ability to interpret P&ID diagrams as well as an understanding of control logic;
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of O&M staff and coordinate with contractors.
