EQUANS is seeking a Design & Engineering Director to join our Places and Communities team on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role, working Monday to Friday. The position offers a competitive salary, company vehicle or allowance, bonus, and benefits package. This is a national role with flexibility in the location of the post holder.

The D&ED leads the technical function within the Division and will be a key influencer in achieving technical excellence. The postholder is responsible for the efficient delivery of our Projects and in delivering fully integrated design and system solutions that underpin successful Project delivery.

The D&ED will also lead the internal design team involved in decarbonisation of housing and public buildings, provide technical assurance / compliance and be responsible for Temporary Works design.

 

What will you deliver? 

  • Design Management Leadership: Project Set Up: Establish design and technical objectives, apply controls, and ensure robust reporting and risk mitigation.
  • Design Production: Build and manage a multi-disciplinary design team, focusing on decarbonization projects.
  • Quality Control: Collaborate with the Quality Manager to implement lessons learned and quality control measures.
  • Consultant Management: Select, appoint, and manage design consultants, ensuring clear scope and project requirements.
  • Promote Strong Communication & Inclusion: Facilitate quarterly design management workshops to promote inclusion and knowledge sharing.
  • Technical Support for Pre-Construction: Support the pre-construction department with tender and design analysis and develop design solutions.
  • Technical Risk Management: Lead and coordinate a technical risk committee.
  • Carbon Reduction Strategy: Lead solution and design development for the P&C Decarbonisation Plan.
  • Recruitment & Development: Recruit, motivate, and develop technical experts and design managers, ensuring consistent performance reviews.
  • BIM & Digital Information Management: Lead the implementation of BIM and digital information management strategies.
  • Innovation & Digital Transformation: Play a key role in promoting new technology and supporting digital transformation.
  • Legislation & Regulations: Stay informed on changing legislation and ensure compliance.
  • Health & Safety: Adhere to health and safety policies and develop improved strategies for Health and Safety by Design.
  • Budget Management: Ensure interventions are within budgets and forecasts, following group procedures and protocols.

Who are we looking for? 

 

Essential

  • Master’s degree in design, M&E Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Extensive experience working at a senior level, influencing and managing multi-disciplinary design and engineering teams, overseeing numerous projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent project and change management skills.
  • Ability to effectively articulate arguments and influence key stakeholders, including peers and seniors.
  • Thorough knowledge of business assurance / risk management systems
  • Experience managing multi-site, cross-functional teams.
  • Proven experience implementing new systems / new ways of working.
  • Good working knowledge of budget control and management.
  • PC literate and knowledge of MS applications and design software applications
