Equans is recruiting for an M&E Apprentice to be based on site at the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. This is a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.

What will you deliver?

  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, repair, and replacement of HVAC, plumbing, and medical gas systems.
  • Work in accordance with Company Policies and ARTS Values, adhering to all health and safety regulations, including full compliance with HASAW (Health and Safety at Work) requirements.
  • Understand and follow RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and codes of safe working practices.
  • Learn to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment in resolving non-routine problems.
  • Undertake personal training and development activities to stay updated on industry advancements and improve your service delivery.
  • Complete PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) and RPM (Reactive Preventive Maintenance) tasks as assigned through Maximo or similar systems.
  • Ensure tasks are properly completed and closed off in Maximo, raising any issues with the M&E Lead to ensure timely resolution.
  • Take ownership of your assigned tasks, ensuring they are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • Respond flexibly to changing work priority and maintain personal well-being under pressure.
  • Maintain a high standard of work quality, following tasks through to completion and ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Embrace challenges as opportunities for learning and improvement, supporting the team in coping with pressure and change.
  • Learn to use tools and equipment required for mechanical work, including hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Plan and prioritize your workload effectively to meet deadlines, ensuring adherence to budget constraints and developing contingency plans where needed.
  • Attend training sessions and complete coursework to gain the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.

Who are we looking for?

  • Nat 5 or equivalent.
  • Ability to work well in a team and follow instructions.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills required for the job.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to undertake training in connection with the duties of the post and Equans requirements.
  • Good communication skills and ability to interact with staff and patients in a professional manner.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
