Equans is looking for a Trainee Design Coordinator to join our team in Hatfield. This is a full time, permanent role with a salary of up £26,000 depending on your skills and experience, plus benefits package.

We are looking for someone keen to start their career within construction here at Equans! You will have either recently completed a Construction related degree or be willing to work towards one.

Your role will be working in our head office in Hatfield alongside our operational team where you will learn firsthand our business. To support you in your learning you will be engaging with our trainee programme where you will be given one day of study per week.

Here at Equans we work on sites across London and the Southeast therefore it is preferable you have a full clean UK driving license, or actively working towards one.

What will you deliver?

The Trainee Design Coordinator supports the design function within the project lifecycle, working alongside design managers, consultants, and internal teams to ensure coordinated and compliant design outputs. The role offers hands-on experience in reviewing drawings, managing design documentation, coordinating technical information flows, and engaging with stakeholders to deliver quality design solutions in line with programme and budget constraints.

  • Assist in the review of design drawings, specifications, and documentation
  • Support the timely production and coordination of information between consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Maintain accurate records of drawings, registers, and correspondence within a ‘Golden Thread’ digital environment
  • Contribute to technical meetings and design workshops
  • Assist in managing design changes and ensuring timely communication of updates
  • Learn to interpret and work from drawings and specifications
  • Develop an understanding of Planning and Building Regulations, along with other necessary statutory and regulatory approvals
  • Build effective working relationships with design and construction teams
  • Liaise with supply chain partners to support design development
  • Attend site visits to understand practical application of designs

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong interest in construction and design coordination
  • Good organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • IT literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • Working towards or recently completed a qualification in a Construction, eg Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (e.g., HNC/HND/Degree level).
  • CSCS card, or willingness to obtain one
  • Health and Safety training, or willingness to complete
