Equans UK is looking to recruit for a Head of Business Development within our growing Embedded Energy business. This role will be responsible and accountable for the successful development and winning of projects across the Embedded Energy business.
Embedded Energy operates and maintains critical energy systems for customers. This includes the energy, mechanical, and environmental systems that power and protect buildings, industries, and communities.
As Head of Business Development you will be responsible for winning new customers and driving development of selected key customers.
The role is critical in driving growth of the Embedded Energy business and will lead the winning and oversee successful growth of customer relationships.
Key activities
- Ensure an active business growth strategy and plan is in place for relevant markets and customers
- Ensure Account Development plans are in place for key customers, with effective monitoring and reporting of activity and outcomes
- Financial targets – ensure that revenue and margin targets are achieved
- Reporting of performance – ensure progress and results are reported through weekly and monthly reporting
- Lead by example through ownership of customer relationships and maps, engaging with our leading customers specific to bids, extensions and renewals
- Define the roles and accountabilities within the bid team required to create a winning profitable proposal and lead the team through the bid process
- In collaboration with the Commercial Team, lead commercial and contractual negotiations, ensuring that Equans policies are adhered to and that competitive and sustainable outcomes are achieved for all parties
- Responsibility for the quality of all aspects of the bid, including written responses and presentations, ensuring written work is clear, concise and compelling
- Setting clear direction and maintaining momentum within the bid team to achieve the desired outcome, including running regular bid calls, hosting workshops, capturing and driving progress on all actions and actively working to remove roadblocks
- Lead opportunities through internal Governance, ensuring the use of Equans’ bid governance process to maintain the strategic direction of the bid and that all necessary approvals are obtained
- Supporting the smooth hand over to mobilisation and operational teams
- Acting as an ambassador for Equans, the wider Business Development community, developing relationships with wider key stakeholders, and improving the overall professional standards within the Division.
Skills, qualifications & experience:
- Demonstrable experience of securing significant growth with new customers
- Experience of both the UK public and/ or private sector bidding environment
- Substantial experience of Sales, Bid development and Marketing
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills – able to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels of business
- Strong communication skills – written and oral
- Experience of leading opportunities through internal Governance processes
- Capable of leading commercial and legal negotiations with customers
- Strong customer relationship and stakeholder management skills with an ability to drive growth and new opportunities
- Excellent commercial acumen with understanding of impacts on P&L, net margin, balance sheet and cash focus
- Experience of risk and opportunity management
