Equans UK is looking to recruit for a Business Improvement Director to support our continued growth within the Digital & Energies Services business.

Role overview

The Business Improvement Director is accountable for leading and delivering the business improvement and transformation agenda within the Digital & Energy Services division, particularly targeting contracts with levels of non-compliance or underperformance. The role supports the broader business plans in continuous improvement, digital and process transformation, and performance optimisation to drive sustainable growth, profitability, and customer value.

Key activities

  • Lead the development and execution of a multi-year business improvement and transformation roadmap, aligned with Equans UK & Ireland strategy and business area plans.
  • Define and manage a portfolio of programmes and projects delivering financial benefits, operational efficiency, risk reduction and enhanced customer value.
  • Partner with Finance and Human Resources to quantify benefits, track performance and ensure that improvement activity is clearly linked to P&L impact and business plans.
  • Identify opportunities to optimise operating models, cost structures and service delivery approaches to enhance competitiveness and profitability.
  • Provide robust insight, analysis and recommendations to the leadership team, using advanced data analytics, business intelligence and scenario modelling.
  • Influence and contribute to bids, contract renewals and strategic partnerships by shaping compelling, efficient and innovative delivery solutions.
  • Sponsor and direct programmes in areas such as digital transformation, automation, data and analytics, and service innovation.
  • Introduce and embed best practice methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma, Agile, project and change management frameworks) tailored to the Equans context.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of performance management frameworks, dashboards and KPIs to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with operational leaders to ensure that improvements are practical, sustainable and aligned with contractual commitments and client expectations.
  • Develop strong working relationships with senior leadership teams, ensuring alignment between improvement priorities and business objectives.
  • Engage with key clients and partners where appropriate to co-design and deliver improvement initiatives that enhance service, value and satisfaction.

Skills, qualifications & experience

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience; professional qualifications in project management, continuous improvement or change management are desirable.
  • Extensive senior leadership experience in business improvement, transformation, operational excellence or a related field, ideally within services, infrastructure, FM, construction or a comparable sector.
  • Proven track record of leading large, complex, multi-stakeholder programmes delivering significant financial and operational benefits.
  • Strong technical grounding in continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma), programme and change management, and performance management.
  • Experience in digital and data-enabled transformation, including process automation, business intelligence and analytics.
  • Highly developed commercial acumen, with the ability to link improvement initiatives to business strategy, P&L performance and customer value.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with experience engaging at Board and Executive level.
