With a rich history of excellence in designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings and critical infrastructure worldwide, we are now offering exciting new opportunity for a Shift Plant Controller to support our technical team at the Leeds Generating Station complex.

Equans Embedded Energy operates multiple customer sites with large-scale embedded energy capacity across the UK, providing specialist management of onsite generation for industrial processes and the ability to export to the Grid. We combine multiple technologies to meet our customers’ specific needs, and provide design, build, operate and maintenance services. Our skills and expertise can help industrial businesses to achieve their carbon reduction goals.

We are experts in many technologies, including combined heat and power (CHP), biomass, and energy from waste. By locating generation on customers’ sites we provide our customers with industry leading safety management, reduced energy costs and carbon footprint and assured energy security for their operational needs.

Job overview

 

The Shift Plant Controller is in charge of the day to day plant operations, including normal and abnormal (Emergency situations) operations of the generating station whilst on shift. They control the operation of all plant with assistance from the Shift Plant Attendant whom they have a supervisory capacity over. They are responsible for process safety and ensuring that the plant operates within defined KPI limits.

Key activities

  • Have a thorough understanding of the safe operation of the plant.
  • Complete shift walkdowns which will include inspections, testing, and repairing equipment and systems which may be defective.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements in fields such as Legionella
  • Have a thorough understanding of the Permit to Work Systems, and all other relevant Health and Safety requirements including writing and the application of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
  • Be fully conversant with Site Operating Procedures, Plans and any Protocols.
  • Take and record Legionella sampling in line with the requirements of L8.
  • Manage and supervise Contractor safety on site and regularly monitor Contractor activities on site.
  • Supervise the Shift Plant Attendant and direct accordingly.
  • Carry out Operational Planned Preventative Maintenance activities on the site.
  • Carry out Operational Reactive works on the site.
  • Carry out unsupervised routine maintenance, remedial work and maintenance of an immediate nature and general duties to ensure reliable and efficient operation of the plant.
  • Be able where necessary to identify where the plant is operating in an unsafe manner, and act accordingly.
