What You’ll Be Leading

To support the rapid growth of Energy Transition activites, Equans is strengthening its Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) business. The Head of Business Development BESS plays a central role in structuring and scaling the commercial pipeline, defining winning strategies, and ensuring seamless transition from development to execution for complex international BESS and hybrid PV-BESS projects. 

Operating in a dynamic and competitive environment, the role requires strong coordination across commercial, engineering, procurement, and operations teams, as well as close engagement with key customers and strategic suppliers. 

 

Your Main Responsibilities:

  • Strategy & Business Development:
    • Define and develop the BESS strategy per country, including financial outlook, target markets, and positioning.
    • Establish and maintain key relationships with strategic customers with international BESS and hybrid portfolios
    • Participate with head of operation to define the Equans delivery model (internal and external) and HV-package delivery strategy.
  • Commercial Pipeline & Governance:
    • Prioritize, structure, and manage a pipeline of approximately 22 BESS and hybrid opportunities across Europe (UK, Germany, France, Netherlands, Nordics).
    • Select, together with the Head of Engineering, the bid teams and define winning strategies.
    • Lead internal governance processes and ensure alignment with Group requirements.
    • Review opportunity progress and support go/no-go decisions.
    • Lead contractual negotiations for each opportunity.
  • Project Preparation & Delivery Coordination:
    • Prepare project delivery with operations teams to ensure smooth execution.
    • Ensure early integration of lessons learned from operations into commercial strategies.
  • Supplier & Partnership Management:
    • Maintain strong relationships with key BESS suppliers at both commercial and technical levels.
    • Develop consortium partnerships with major players.
    • Define and implement BESS wrap-up strategies together with engineering and procurement.
  • Team Management and Internal Coordination & Continuous Improvement :
    • Manage a team including bid managers and cost engineers.
    • Act as the main point of contact for all BESS-related topics within the Business Development team.
    • Animate the internal BESS community across commercial, engineering, and project management teams and internal Business club
    • Promote knowledge sharing and development of BESS expertise (technical, commercial, and HR aspects such as HV/BESS competencies).

The Profile We’re Looking For

  • Holds a Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or an equivalent field. 
  • Demonstrates significant experience in renewable energy, including strong expertise in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hybrid projects. 
  • Has proven track record in business development within complex EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environments.
  • Experienced in managing international stakeholders and overseeing large project pipelines.
  • Possesses strong strategic thinking and commerical acumen to drive business growth.
  • Exhibits leadership qualities with demonstrated team management capabilities. 
  • Skilled in negotiation and contractual management to secure optimal outcomes.
  • Comfortable working in complex environments involving multiple stakeholders. 
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
