Equans is looking for a Performance Improvement Manager to join our Sustainable FM team on a permanent basis, working across the Central and South West Region.. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week, with travel across the region and nationally required. The Performance Improvement Manager is a key regional role responsible for leading the Operational Excellence agenda across the Central & South West portfolio. Reporting to the Operations Director, the role focuses on driving measurable improvements in contract performance, compliance and consistency.
The role establishes and leads a structured, repeatable contract healthcheck methodology to assess performance, capability and delivery across sites. Using defined metrics and evidence‑based review techniques, the post‑holder identifies gaps, risks and improvement opportunities, then develops and project‑manages clear, prioritised improvement plans that are owned and delivered by contract teams.
Working closely with Account Directors, Contract Managers and functional leads, the role embeds a culture of continuous improvement and data‑led decision‑making. The post‑holder also collaborates with Operational Excellence and Performance Improvement teams across Sustainable FM to share best practice, align methodologies and drive consistency across the wider organisation.
What will you deliver?
Contract Health checks & Performance Diagnostics
- Design and implement a structured contract “health check” methodology to assess operational performance, compliance, capability and maturity.
- Define clear performance metrics, evidence requirements and review criteria aligned to Operational Excellence standards.
- Lead on‑site and desktop reviews to identify gaps, risks, systemic issues and improvement opportunities across contracts
Performance Improvement Planning & Delivery
- Translate health check outputs into clear, prioritised performance improvement plans at site and contract level.
- Work with Contract Managers and Account Directors to agree ownership, actions, timescales and success measures.
- Project‑manage the delivery of improvement plans, tracking progress, dependencies and outcomes to ensure actions are completed and embedded.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement
- Lead and coordinate performance improvement initiatives across the Central & South West portfolio.
- Identify regional trends and recurring issues, embedding best practice and continuous improvement techniques.
- Support the consistent application of Operational Excellence standards across all contracts.
Contract Compliance & Assurance
- Develop and maintain regional performance and compliance metrics.
- Improve audit and assurance outcomes through robust analysis, follow‑up and delivery tracking.
- Provide objective assurance, challenge and insight to operational teams and senior leadership.
Metrics, Reporting & Insight
- Design, develop and maintain performance dashboards and reporting tools using systems such as Power BI.
- Ensure data integrity, clarity and consistency across reporting outputs.
- Translate complex performance data into clear, actionable insight for operational and leadership decision‑making.
Leadership Deep Dive Audits & Improvement Oversight
- Support the Senior Leadership Team to undertake structured “Health Check” audits and performance reviews.
- Work with contract teams to close out actions, embed learning and drive measurable improvement.
- Monitor and report on progress, ensuring improvements are sustained beyond initial intervention.
Operational Excellence Collaboration & Best Practice
- Actively engage with Operational Excellence, Performance Improvement and Assurance teams across Sustainable FM.
- Share best practice, align ways of working and contribute to the continual improvement of standards, tools and methodologies.
Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration
- Work closely with Account Directors, Contract Managers and functional teams including SHEQ, Commercial, Technical and HR.
- Support capability development within contract teams to enable long‑term performance improvement and self‑sufficiency.

Who are we looking for?
- Strong FM operational, performance improvement or assurance experience within a multi‑site or regional environment.
- Proven experience assessing contract performance, identifying gaps and developing structured improvement plans.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to drive delivery through others and sustain outcomes.
- Proven ability to design, interpret and improve KPIs and performance metrics.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
- Advanced competence in Power BI, including dashboard design, analysis of complex datasets and insight generation.
- Confident stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to challenge constructively and influence at all levels.
- Experience working within formal Operational Excellence, Continuous Improvement or Assurance frameworks.
- Exposure to standardised reporting or benchmarking models across multiple contracts or regions.
- Experience collaborating with national or cross‑regional improvement teams.
- Familiarity with tools such as SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps or similar workflow and reporting platforms.
- Completion of a recognised digital or data‑focused apprenticeship, or willingness to undertake one.
