EQUANS is looking for a Development Director to join our team in Manchester on a permanent basis. This is a fulltime role working Monday to Friday. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
We are looking for a driven and commercially focused Development Director to join and lead or Business Development and Bidding function, which incorporates all aspects of the end to end work winning process. As a senior role, you will be part of the North Region SLT. The role will also have line management responsibilities. You will be required to design complex win strategies, themes and solutions with operations, subject matter experts and bid teams for tenders and sales. You will ensure that all commercial and contractual processes are followed in line with group requirements and oversee, prepare and assist in the writing of PQQ / RFI / tender responses in conjunction with bid management. There will be requirement to engage at Equans Group Executive level, and similar experience is required for the role.
What will you deliver?
- Drive growth for TFM/Services, develop national footprint; Local Government and wider Public Sector diversification (SFM alignment), e.g. £15M < annual contract value + scope emphasis on capital projects
- Drive growth for Public Buildings, develop geographical diversification, Local Government and wider Public Sector, civic estate / administrative facilities, maximise internal trading with SFM
- Drive growth for ERL / Regen activity, immediate focus on re-establishing market share in NE/NW and geographical expansion
- Direct Sales and Marketing; recruit / engage door opener and central Strategic Development team, clarify messaging for the 3 workstreams, differentiation/positioning, lead activity to create new, improve/develop existing client relationships (Regen / PB, TFM)
- Maximise Equans’ prospects in future competitive P&C tenders
- Maximise direct award opportunities
- Lead in conjunction with OU Directors the development of existing client relationships, scope and negotiate deeds of variation, new deals, contract extensions, including commercial solutioning, deal structure and drafting, negotiation and close.
- Business Plan – work in conjunction with P&C MD, and P&C Exec / Strategic Development Team to set and agree P&C North BP, incl short / medium / long term strategy, pipeline analysis and target resolution, £Budget, resources, marketing strategy etc
- Bid Team – resolve pipeline analysis for all workstreams, agree resource plan and establish one integrated central team, recruit and scale up bid activity in line with BP, manage all bid activity, and drive enthusiasm and positive engagement through the team to a shared aim
- Use existing and/or creation of new contacts across SFM, DES and Vivo to maximise internal opportunities aligned to the Jardinage programme and business KPI4
- Develop Strategic Account Management Plans and ensure appropriate owners of senior relations (CX, S151, Directors etc), including ownership of some accounts by you

Who are we looking for?
Experience
- Proven experience of delivering new business, securing extensions and developing a pipeline of opportunity in FM, Building Works, Repairs and Maintenance and broader Regeneration activity
- Highly numerate, and a commercial thinker with the ability to understand and lead commercial negotiations
- Lead complex multi-service tenders, including competitive dialogue and client engagement
- Lead soft-market testing to influence client positions on procurement routes, T&Cs and operational solutions prior to formal tender
- In-depth experience of devising complex FM, Repairs and Maintenance and Regeneration solutions for a variety of public sector and private sector clients
- Good interpersonal skills, influence and impact, working with others
- A strong quality orientation and commitment to continuous improvement
- An influential and persuasive communicator, with a high standard of written and verbal communication skills
- A clear and strategic thinker, able to offer new and innovative solutions.
- Excellent people management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to identify, establish and maintain sustainable pipeline to achieve targets
- Able to relate with people on many different levels and build effective relationships with them, especially at Executive level (Divisional, UK and Group).
- Significant experience in leading a Business Development function.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant profession (not limited to Surveying, Commercial Management etc).
- Accreditation to relevant professional institute is preferred.
