Equans is looking for an Assistant Electrical Technical Manager to join the team at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth on a permanent basis. This is a full-time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

The post holder will undertake electrical inspection, testing, certification and compliance activities across the Portsmouth University Hospital estate, ensuring all LV electrical systems remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose.

Working within the Estates Team, the post holder will support the Technical Manager in the efficient operation and maintenance of the hospital’s HV and LV electrical infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on carrying out periodic inspection and testing in accordance with City & Guilds 2391, BS 7671, HTM guidance and statutory regulations. The role will also contribute to the promotion of good engineering practices and support healthcare engineering compliance across the estate.

This role is an excellent opportunity for a qualified electrical engineer to step up. With paid overtime and on call, the opportunity to earn Authorised Person (LV and HV) qualifications, IOSH Managing Safety qualification, as well as opportunities to develop and grow with an experienced team.

What will you deliver?

  • Undertake and plan periodic inspection and testing of LV electrical installations throughout the hospital estate in line with current legislation, HTMs, relevant British Standards and recognised industry guidance
  • Produce accurate Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs), Minor Works Certificates and Electrical Installation Certificates as required
  • Maintain comprehensive inspection, test and certification records within the CAFM system and ensure statutory compliance documentation is up to date 
  • Support the estates management team in the provision of a 24-hour maintenance service within Portsmouth University Hospital for the SPV
  • Ensure safe systems of work are used, in line with HTMs, recognised Codes of Practice, Equans Quality Management System (ISO 9001), Health & Safety at Work Act, COSHH Regulations, Electricity at Work Regulations and all other applicable legislation
  • Support the management and maintenance of HV and LV electrical distribution systems
  • Provide technical support and advice in resolving complex electrical engineering issues relating to the estate infrastructure
  • Support and manage specialist contractors, reviewing risk assessment and method statements, issuing permits to work, ensuring compliance with site procedures and standards
  • Assist in the delivery and continuous development of the site life-cycle and compliance plans
  • Work in areas occupied by patients, visitors and staff, having due regard for health, safety, dignity, confidentiality and Data Protection requirements

Who are we looking for?

  • City & Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing (or equivalent recognised qualification)
  • NVQ Level 3, ONC, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
  • Extensive experience carrying out electrical inspection, testing and certification of commercial or healthcare electrical installations
  • Experience producing EICRs and associated certification to BS 7671 requirements
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience working on LV distribution systems, switchgear, final circuits and associated infrastructure
  • Good understanding of statutory electrical compliance requirements
  • Strong understanding of electrical health and safety requirements

This role includes a DBS Standard check therefore ability to pass is essential.
